What Is ‘Your Year with ChatGPT’?
ChatGPT is joining the year-end recap trend with a new experience called “Your Year with ChatGPT,” a feature that works much like Spotify Wrapped but for your AI conversations. Instead of music habits, it looks back at how you used ChatGPT throughout the year and turns that activity into a personalised story. The experience highlights your most common use cases, favourite topics and the different ways you relied on the tool—whether it was for work, study, creativity or everyday problem solving. OpenAI describes it as a lightweight, fun and visual way to reflect on how AI has quietly become part of people’s daily routines.
Who Can Access the New Recap Feature?
According to OpenAI, “Your Year with ChatGPT” is being rolled out first to eligible users in select English-speaking markets. At launch, it is available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, with the possibility of more countries being added over time. Users on Free, Plus and Pro plans can qualify for the feature as long as they have both “reference saved memories” and “reference chat history” enabled in their settings, and meet a minimum threshold of conversation activity. The recap is not available for Team, Enterprise or Education accounts, which typically have different privacy and usage controls. For users in other regions, including Pakistan, there is hope that the feature will eventually be rolled out more widely once the initial phase is complete.
Wrapped-Style Awards, Poems and Visual Insights
Inspired by Spotify Wrapped, the experience turns raw usage data into playful, visual storytelling. “Your Year with ChatGPT” presents colourful graphics and assigns light-hearted “awards” based on how you interact with the AI. For example, someone who often uses ChatGPT to debug ideas, refine drafts or untangle complex problems might receive a “Creative Debugger” award. The recap can also generate a custom poem that reflects your overall interaction style, and an image that captures your main topics of interest throughout the year. Instead of just showing numbers, the feature is designed to give users something they can enjoy, share and talk about, while still being grounded in their actual conversation history.
Privacy, Control and How to Turn It On
OpenAI has stressed that “Your Year with ChatGPT” is optional and built with privacy in mind. The experience is promoted on the ChatGPT home screen, but it does not open automatically and will not be forced on anyone. Users who are interested can also manually trigger it by asking ChatGPT for “Your Year with ChatGPT.” Because the recap relies on chat history and saved memories, users must keep those features enabled; otherwise, there is not enough data to generate a meaningful summary. OpenAI says the entire experience remains under user control, and people can adjust their data settings or opt out if they do not want their activity reflected in a year-end review.
Available on Web and Mobile for Everyday Users
The year-end recap is accessible across the main ChatGPT platforms, including the web interface and the mobile apps for iOS and Android. That means users can view their personalised summary on a laptop, tablet or smartphone with the same visual experience. For OpenAI, the launch of “Your Year with ChatGPT” is also a way to showcase how people are using AI in real life—whether to learn new skills, plan events, draft documents, practise languages or experiment with creative projects. As more tech products add Wrapped-style recaps, ChatGPT’s version puts the focus on everyday interaction with AI and how it quietly shapes productivity and creativity over a full year.
