COVID-19, Flight Operations Halted, PIA Feared 100 Billion Loss

The global epidemic Coronavirus and the closure of operations for the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States, the national airline is feared to lose more than 100 billion rupees this year.

PIA had set a revenue target of Rs 196 billion. PIA is facing a loss of more than Rs 280 million on five flights due to closure of operations in the United States. PIA was given special permission to operate 12 flights to the United States.

PIA operated 23 weekly flights to the UK and 6 to Europe. PIA fears a loss of more than Rs 33 billion in revenue from the UK and Europe due to the EU ban.

Due to the closure of international flights in Saudi Arabia, the PIA Hajj operation could not take place this year, due to which the national airline is facing a loss of Rs 12 billion. PIA suffered a loss of over Rs9.5 billion in five months due to non-availability of Umrah season.

PIA earns Rs 22 billion a year in the Umrah season. The PIA was also harmed by the ban on Umrah pilgrims due to the coronavirus. The coronavirus also affected regional operations.
