The price of flour in Lahore is a problem. The government and the flour mills could not implement the agreed price. A 20 kg bag of flour worth Rs 860 has started selling for Rs 1100 in the market.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, the price of a bag of flour was increased from Rs 805 to Rs 850. Following the concerns of flour millers, the new price has now been fixed at Rs 860.
To implement the new price, it was agreed to pay Rs. 1475 per quintal of wheat from government store houses but wheat was not released from government store houses and the price of flour was not reduced.
The price set by the government at Rs 860 has been completely ignored. A bag of flour is being sold in the market at Rs. 1020 to 1100.
People say that it has been a month and a half, the price of flour is not being controlled. The price announced by the government should also be implemented. Even after the release of cheap wheat to flour mills, it is likely to take a few more days for flour to become cheaper in the market.
