Good news for marriage hall owners—Punjab government has declared marriage halls exempt from various taxes. The Finance Department has sent a summary of the exemption to the Cabinet.
According to details, marriage halls were closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Now the Punjab government has decided to give relief to marriage halls under which marriage halls will be exempted from sales tax till they open. Earlier, the Marriage Halls Association had demanded the opening of marriage halls in a joint meeting. The officials of the association said that if the government gives permission, the social distance will be considered. However, if the government does not allow it, it should refund the taxes collected for at least one year. The government should waive the electricity and gas bills and also announce financial assistance for the salaries of the employees of the halls. The leaders demanded that an SOP be issued for the waiver of rent of the rented marriage halls.
It is to be noted that various actions were taken by the district administration due to coronavirus, on which 36 marriage halls of the city were sealed for ignoring the orders related to coronavirus.
