The federal cabinet of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) reviewed a report provided by the Ministry of Industries and Production, and approved a PKR 75 billion relief package for SMEs and unemployed workers across the country.
Under the approved ‘Chota Karobar Imdadi Package,’ the federal government will pay for the months of May, June and July the electricity bills for the small businesses.
The minister said this would help reduce the pressure on 95% of business connections and 80% of industrial connections. The system would apply to both reported and unregistered commercial and industrial meters.
He has called it a strategy method for achieving the full number of sectors. Specific sector policies are to be in the next step, he explained. Under the scheme, assistance will be given to commercial consumers up to PKR 100,000 and industrial consumers up to PKR 450,000 over three months.
Azhar declared that, under the ‘Ehsaas Emergency Cash Plan’, PKR 12,000 would be doled out to four to six million families. Under the announced plan, assistance will be provided to at least 3.5 million small businesses. Businesses with 5KW connections and 70KW related industries do not have to pay their bills for three months.
