Pakistanis Invited to Showcase Cultural Heritage
The Higher Education Commission has invited citizens of Pakistan to take part in the ECO International Mobile Photography Festival 2026. The festival, titled Our Heritage, is being organized by the ECO Cultural Institute. This year’s theme, Passing on Heritage, asks photographers to capture how traditions, skills, customs and cultural knowledge move from one generation to another.
The competition is open to both amateur and professional photographers. It is designed around mobile photography, making it easier for young people, students and community photographers to participate without needing expensive camera equipment. Participants must be at least 15 years old.
| Editorial Note: The strongest entries are likely to show real cultural practice, such as a craftsperson teaching a younger worker, a family ceremony, folk music, farming knowledge, storytelling or traditional food preparation. |
Who Can Enter and What They Can Photograph
Citizens from all 10 ECO member countries are eligible to participate. These countries are Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Each participant can submit a maximum of three photographs, and every photograph will be judged separately.
The subject matter is broad but must stay connected to heritage. Photographers may capture traditional handicrafts such as carpet weaving, embroidery, pottery and woodwork. They may also cover folk music, poetry, oral traditions, traditional ceremonies, local customs, farming practices and other forms of inherited knowledge.

Mobile Photo Rules, Editing Limits and Deadline
All photographs must be taken with a mobile phone camera. Photos taken with DSLR, mirrorless, compact or action cameras will not be accepted. Drone photographs are also excluded. The organizers have also banned AI-generated images and AI-based editing that changes the actual content of a photo.
Basic editing is allowed if it does not misrepresent the scene. Participants may adjust brightness, exposure, contrast, white balance, color, sharpness and noise. Cropping is also allowed, but the original content of the image must remain truthful. Photos must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format, and the shortest side of each image must be at least 2,000 pixels. The maximum file size is 10 MB.
| Deadline Watch: The deadline for submissions is September 12, 2026. Jury evaluation is scheduled from September 13 to September 23, with winners expected on September 24. |

The first, second and third-place winners will receive trophies, certificates of honor and cash prizes. Their photographs will also be published in the festival catalogue. The amount of the cash prizes has not yet been announced. A separate Certificate of Recognition will go to the highest-ranked eligible photograph from each ECO member country.
Applicants can submit entries through the official ECO Cultural Institute website or by email, as mentioned in the festival guidelines.
