Increase in Lahore-Islamabad Motorway Toll Tax

August 28, 2023Zayn0

Thousands of people utilize the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway, often known as M-2, which connects the important cities of Lahore and Islamabad. Lahore and Islamabad may be reached quickly and easily because to the heavily used north-south highway.

A legal notice states that the new tariffs will be in force from August 25, 2023, through August 26, 2024. The following are the new rates:

Category Toll Rate Per Kilometer (Rs.) Total Amount (Rs.)
Car/Jeep/Pickup 3.07 1,100
Wagon 5.15 1,840
Coaster 7.22 2,590
Coach 10.29 3,690
Truck 13.39 4,800
Trailer 17.22 6,170

However, commuters must pay tolls at various toll booths along the route, making the M-2 motorway a toll road. The fee aids in the infrastructure upkeep and improvement of the highway.

Project for the Gujranwala Motorway Link

Development on the Rs. 11 billion Gujranwala Motorway Link Project, which will link the city to the motorway, began last month. The project will be completed in 90 days, making transit for the 600,000 city residents easier.

Wrap Up

There is still a choice to travel by Grand Trunk (GT) road. However, compared to a highway, the quality of the GT road is rather poor and there are damaged sections of it. While traveling on GT Road, there is too much traffic, pedestrians crossing the road, and local city traffic.

The fact that the highways are gated means that no one or anything can access them from either side to cross. There is no local city traffic because there aren’t many entry and departure locations.

Therefore, these highways in Pakistan do cut down travel time to a minimum because they are completely segregated. However, the motorway toll fees must only be raised if they are truly necessary in these challenging times for Pakistan’s citizens, when inflation rates and gasoline prices are too high.

The administration, however, may have found it difficult to pay for the huge expenditures associated with maintaining highways like motorways, which is why they may have taken this action. One alternative would be to raise the cost of the challans or tickets issued to motorists who violate traffic laws. This would enhance money for the authorities while also aiding in the decrease of these infractions.
