Toll Hike Implemented on All Lahore Ring Road Loops

The Lahore Ring Road Authority (LRRA) has notified a fresh increase in toll tax for all vehicles using the Northern Loop, Southern Loop and the Eastern Bypass. According to the authority, toll rates have been raised by 16.67 percent across the board, with the revised charges coming into effect earlier this week. The hike applies to private cars, public transport and heavy commercial vehicles, affecting thousands of commuters and transporters who rely on the Ring Road for faster access around Lahore and onward routes to other cities. Officials say the adjustment is part of a scheduled revision in tolls linked to rising maintenance costs, inflation and contractual commitments with concessionaires.

New Toll Rates for Cars, Vans, Buses and Heavy Vehicles

Under the revised schedule, toll for cars and jeeps using the Ring Road has increased from Rs. 60 to Rs. 70 per trip. Hiace vans and wagons, commonly used for intercity and local passenger transport, will now be charged Rs. 140, up from Rs. 120 previously. Minibuses and coasters also see their toll raised to Rs. 140 from the earlier rate of Rs. 120. Larger buses, including those operated by private companies and transport services, will pay Rs. 350 instead of Rs. 300. Heavy commercial vehicles have been hit with even steeper revisions. Loader trucks, dumpers and pickups with two to three axles will now be charged Rs. 420 per trip, compared to Rs. 360 before the hike. Trucks and trailers with more than three axles will pay Rs. 700, up from Rs. 600. The new structure means that logistics companies and freight operators using the Ring Road corridor could see a noticeable increase in their daily operating costs.

List of Vehicles Exempt from Lahore Ring Road Toll

Despite the across-the-board hike, certain categories of vehicles remain fully exempt from paying toll on the Lahore Ring Road. According to the LRRA, the following vehicles will continue to enjoy toll-free passage: ambulances, defence vehicles, flag cars, fire-fighting vehicles and funeral vans. Official vehicles belonging to the Authority itself or to the road concessionaire are also exempt, along with police vehicles on duty. In addition, vehicles bearing special plates for the Presidency, Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Governor House and Chief Minister’s Secretariat are not charged. Exemptions also apply to vehicles carrying foreign dignitaries on official state visits to Pakistan, as well as vehicles deputed for essential public services. The Authority says these exemptions are intended to keep emergency response, law enforcement and high-level state movement smooth and uninterrupted.

Impact on Daily Commuters, Transporters and Goods Movement

For ordinary commuters, the toll hike means slightly higher daily travel costs, especially for those who use the Ring Road multiple times a day for work or business. Many car owners rely on the Ring Road to bypass inner-city congestion and save time, and while the increase from Rs. 60 to Rs. 70 may appear modest per trip, it can add up over weeks and months. Public transport operators, including wagon, coaster and bus owners, may face pressure to pass on some of the additional toll burden to passengers through higher fares. Freight and logistics companies using heavy trucks and trailers are likely to be the most affected, as their per-trip costs have risen more sharply. Higher transport costs can eventually feed into the prices of goods moving into and out of Lahore, particularly construction material, food supplies and consumer products.

What Motorists Should Keep in Mind After the Toll Increase

The Lahore Ring Road Authority has advised motorists to take note of the revised toll schedule and plan their travel and budgets accordingly. Regular users, including ride-hailing drivers, office commuters and goods carriers, are encouraged to factor the higher tolls into their monthly expenses and route planning. Some transporters may look at optimising their trip frequency, combining loads or adjusting service charges to manage the impact. Officials have also urged drivers to cooperate with toll plaza staff and avoid arguments, as rates are being implemented uniformly in line with the notified increase. For now, no further concessions or discounts have been announced, and the revised tolls apply equally on the Northern and Southern loops of the Ring Road as well as the Eastern Bypass.
