Why Lahore Traffic Police Is Taking Tougher Action

Lahore Traffic Police has stepped up enforcement on the city’s model roads after taking action against more than 42,000 vehicles and motorcyclists so far this year. The campaign shows that authorities are now focusing not only on routine challans but also on violations that directly create road danger, traffic jams and public inconvenience.

The latest official figures cover several major violations, including dangerous driving, lane-line breaches, one-way movement, signal jumping, underage driving, riding without helmets and driving without valid licenses. These are among the most common problems on Lahore’s busy roads, especially during peak traffic hours when careless driving can quickly create long queues and accidents.

Motorcycles Remain a Major Focus of Enforcement

Motorcyclists form a large share of daily traffic in Lahore, and the new data shows that they remain a key focus of traffic enforcement. Authorities impounded 18,141 motorcycles over dangerous driving violations, making this one of the biggest categories in the crackdown. Dangerous riding can include reckless movement, sudden lane changes, speeding in crowded areas and behavior that puts both riders and pedestrians at risk.

Helmet enforcement has also remained strict. According to the figures, 10,114 motorcyclists were fined for riding without helmets. This point is important because helmet use is directly linked to survival and injury reduction in road accidents. In a city where motorcycles are used by students, workers, delivery riders and families, helmet compliance is not just a legal issue but a basic safety need.

Lane, Signal and One-Way Violations Add to Road Pressure

Traffic police also took action against 12,289 motorists and motorcyclists for lane-line violations. Lane discipline is one of the biggest challenges on urban roads because frequent lane switching slows down traffic and raises the risk of side collisions. On model roads, where traffic flow is expected to be more orderly, lane violations can reduce the purpose of planned road management.

Officials also issued challans to 2,289 vehicles for one-way violations and 616 vehicles for breaking traffic signals. These offences may look minor to some drivers, but they often create serious accident risks. One-way violations disturb the expected flow of vehicles, while signal violations can lead to crashes at intersections, especially when drivers assume the road is clear after getting a green signal.

Underage and Unlicensed Driving Remain Serious Concerns

The crackdown also covered underage and unlicensed driving. Traffic police issued challans to 395 underage drivers and 3,819 people for driving without valid licenses. These numbers show that many people are still using vehicles without meeting the basic legal requirements for road use.

Underage driving is especially worrying because young drivers may not have the training, judgment or legal awareness needed to handle city traffic. Similarly, unlicensed driving weakens the purpose of the licensing system, which is meant to ensure that drivers understand traffic signs, road discipline and safety rules before operating a vehicle.

What This Crackdown Means for Lahore’s Roads

Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi urged citizens to follow traffic rules to help reduce accidents and traffic congestion in Lahore. His message reflects the wider purpose of the campaign: enforcement alone cannot fix road problems unless citizens also change their driving habits and treat traffic rules as a shared responsibility.

For Lahore, the crackdown sends a clear warning that violations on model roads will continue to attract action. It also highlights the need for daily discipline from riders and drivers. Wearing helmets, carrying valid licenses, staying in lanes, avoiding one-way travel and obeying signals are simple steps, but they can make the city’s roads safer, faster and more manageable for everyone.
