Night-Time Visits Coming to Lahore Zoo
Lahore Zoo is preparing to open its gates after dark for the first time, giving visitors a new way to enjoy one of the city’s most popular family attractions. According to Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department Director General Mobeen Elahi, the zoo plans to introduce night-time visits from February. The move is aimed at adding fresh entertainment options for families, young people and tourists who want to experience the zoo in a different atmosphere.
Which Areas Will Open at Night?
Under the new plan, only selected sections of the zoo will be open in the evening. These include the lion enclosures, the Reptile House, the fish aquarium and the Hologram Zoo. The management also intends to use ambient lighting to highlight the food court, lake, trees and the hill inside the zoo, creating a scenic night-time setting. The night zoo will remain open until 9pm, giving visitors time to walk around key attractions without rushing.
Puppet Shows, Live Music and Weekend Fun
To make the night-time experience more than just a walk through the grounds, Lahore Zoo is planning a range of entertainment activities. Mobeen Elahi has said that puppet shows will be arranged for children, adding a fun and interactive element for younger visitors. In addition, live music performances are planned for weekends, turning the zoo into a family-friendly evening outing spot. Weekend entry tickets for night visits will cost more than weekday tickets because of the extra entertainment, but the exact prices have yet to be finalised.
Food Court Upgrade and New Dining Options
The zoo’s food court is also set for a makeover as part of the night-visit project. The Director General has announced that the food court will be revamped to offer a better dining experience. After the upgrade, the food area is expected to be outsourced to an international food chain to raise standards and attract more customers. Authorities have already invited bids from local food vendors through a formal tender process.
Animal Welfare: Focus on Nocturnal Enclosures
One of the main concerns around night-time zoo visits is the impact on animal welfare. Addressing these worries, Mobeen Elahi has clarified that the zoo will only open areas that house nocturnal animals at night. This means that animals that are naturally active after dark will be the focus, while those that need quiet resting time will not be disturbed. Officials say the approach is designed to balance visitor interest with responsible wildlife care. The standard daytime entry fee of Rs. 100 will remain unchanged, while separate charges will apply for the night experience.
Ticket Prices and Access for Visitors
The department has confirmed that weekend night tickets will be priced higher than weekday tickets, but final rates have not yet been announced. The aim is to keep the night zoo accessible while covering the cost of lighting, staff, security and entertainment. Families will be able to choose between regular daytime entry at Rs. 100 and upgraded evening packages that include shows and other extras.
Inspired by International Night Zoo Models
Officials say the night-visit concept is inspired by successful examples from abroad, including the night safari model of the Singapore Zoo. Around the world, night zoos and evening safaris have become popular attractions, offering a chance to see animals that are more active after dark and to enjoy cooler weather. By adopting similar ideas, Lahore Zoo hopes to modernise its image and boost visitor numbers.
What the Night Zoo Means for Lahore Families
For families in Lahore, the new night-time schedule offers a fresh alternative to malls and restaurants for weekend outings. An evening visit to the zoo, combined with puppet shows, music and upgraded food options, may appeal to parents looking for safe, outdoor entertainment for their children. It also gives working adults, who cannot visit during the day, a chance to enjoy the zoo after office hours.
