Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) decided to review mobile termination rates. From July 1, 2022, off-net calls in the country will become more affordable, and off-net calls will be reduced from 0.50 to 0.40.
Mobile Termination Rate is the price that Mobile Cellular charges another mobile operator for terminating off-net calls on its network. Since then, the rate has been 0.70, the MTR was 0.50 in January, 0.40 in June, and will be reduced to 0.30 in July.
The PTA fixed the said MTR prices on November 24, 2021. MTR was used for all types of calls to Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from other mobile networks to mobile networks. Have been deleted.
The reduction in MTRs was made after full consultation with the telecom industry. PTA believes that reducing MTR will give consumers more convenience and innovative offers like free minutes of net bundles.
PTA observed in July 2021 that MTR in Pakistan is 0.70 minutes per minute. In addition, PTA also received requests from telecom operators to review the existing rates of mobile termination. The majority of respondents recommended lowering the PTA’s MTR.
However, PTA has decided that mobile termination rates will be reduced, from January 2022 to June will be charged at 0.40 a minute, and from July 2022 to June 2023 0.30 will be charged.
