The Punjab government is going to adopt an international model to improve the life system and business process in the city, for which the government has set up a new Lahore Central Business District Development Authority in place of the LDA.
According to details, the Punjab government is going to build an international style business hub around Walton Airport, under which another new authority called Lahore Central Business District Development Authority has been set up after the traditional urban development project in Lahore. The authority will initially take control of thousands of acres of land and residential areas around Walton Airport.
The authority will control the business center around Walton Airport and at the same time will have the power to impose new taxes in its designated area. According to a draft prepared by the authority, the authority will provide water and sewerage to residents of covered areas. The charges will be collected voluntarily. After the approval of the authority, no citizen will be able to install even a tube well for obtaining water in Central Lahore.
The authority will have full authority to purchase and sell land in Central Lahore. The authority will be empowered to impose fines on changes in land use. The authority will have the power to demolish any property within its limits, according to documents. The Authority will be able to have a retired and present service officer from the Armed Forces with the Civil Service as DG while the Chairman of the Authority will be the Chief Minister of Punjab.
The authority will also have the power to improve the traffic system in its demarcation, while the construction of high-rise buildings will no longer be done without the approval of the new authority, officials said. After the notification of specific areas, the authority will be able to control these areas itself.
