⚡ Quick Takeaways

  • OGDCL has completed testing of the Chak 63-05 development well in Sanghar, Sindh.
  • The well flowed 10.5 MMSCFD gas and 600 BPD condensate during production testing.
  • Testing was carried out through a 32/64 inch choke at 2,580 psig wellhead flowing pressure.
  • Chak 63-05 was drilled to 3,325 meters and completed in the Massive Sand reservoir.
  • The well will be connected to the SSGC system for early monetization.

OGDCL has completed a new development well in Sindh, with test production showing gas and condensate flows that could add to Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon supplies once connected to the transmission system.

Chak 63-05 Tests Strong Gas and Condensate Flow

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has completed testing of Chak 63-05, a new development well in the Chak 63 Development and Production Lease in Sanghar district, Sindh. The company said the well produced 10.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and 600 barrels of condensate per day during production testing.

The test was carried out through a 32/64 inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 2,580 pounds per square inch gauge. These figures are important because they show the well’s initial production potential before it is connected to the gas transmission network and formally monetized.

Why It Matters: A producing development well can add near-term supply without waiting for a completely new exploration cycle.

Well Details Show Progress From Spud to Completion

Chak 63-05 was spudded on April 20, 2026 and drilled to a total depth of 3,325 meters. It was completed in the Massive Sand reservoir, a key technical detail for investors and energy-sector readers following the performance of the Chak 63 lease.

OGDCL said the well will be connected to the Sui Southern Gas Company system, while activities for early monetization are underway. In practical terms, the test results are only the first step. The well must still be tied into the transmission system before its output can support commercial gas supply.

Metric Reported Figure Location / Partner Impact
Gas flow 10.5 MMSCFD Chak 63-05 Adds domestic gas potential
Condensate flow 600 BPD Chak 63-05 Adds liquid hydrocarbon output
Wellhead pressure 2,580 psig 32/64 inch choke Shows tested flow condition
Total depth 3,325 meters Massive Sand reservoir Confirms completed target
Operator stake 62.5% OGDCL Main operating control
Partner stakes 22.5% and 15% GHPL and OPL Shared JV production exposure

OGDCL Leads the Chak 63 Joint Venture

OGDCL operates the Chak 63 Development and Production Lease with a 62.5 percent working interest. Government Holdings (Private) Limited holds 22.5 percent, while Orient Petroleum Inc. Limited holds the remaining 15 percent. The ownership split means production and economic benefits will be shared among the joint venture partners.

For OGDCL, the well strengthens its upstream portfolio and adds another producing asset in Sindh. For the broader energy sector, any additional local gas and condensate output matters because Pakistan continues to face pressure from imported energy costs and domestic gas supply constraints.

The company said production from Chak 63-05 is expected to augment indigenous hydrocarbon supplies and contribute to energy security. That framing is important because domestic fields remain a key part of Pakistan’s effort to reduce import dependence and manage fuel availability for consumers and industry.

Production Watch: The next operational milestone is connection to the SSGC system so tested output can move into commercial supply.

New Supply Supports Local Energy Security Goals

Pakistan’s gas system depends on a mix of local production and imported fuel. New wells like Chak 63-05 cannot solve the entire supply gap alone, but they can help slow decline and provide incremental volumes that support the national grid, industry and downstream consumers.

The well’s condensate output is also relevant because condensate can support the liquid fuels side of the domestic energy chain. While the test figures are encouraging, sustained production will depend on reservoir behavior, facility readiness, system connection and field management over time.

For now, the completion gives OGDCL a positive operational update and gives the market a clearer picture of how Chak 63-05 may contribute once it is brought online. The final impact will be clearer after the well is connected and actual production stabilizes.

Bottom Line: Chak 63-05 adds a promising local gas and condensate source, but its real value depends on timely connection and sustained production.
