Flour and sugar prices in different parts of Lahore skyrocketed, the supply of sugar flour at official rates in Johar Town and surrounding areas became a dream.
According to details, the Punjab government has claimed to supply flour and sugar in the city at government rates. Contrary to government claims, there is almost no supply of flour and sugar in Johar Town and its environs. Sugar is being sold at Rs 98 to Rs 100 per kg at various stores in Revenue Society. The shopkeeper says that sugar is being sold in bulk at Rs 96 per kg and it is not possible to sell it at a lower rate. The sugar name and price have been omitted from the official price list provided to the vendors.
Rising flour prices and shortages are troubling both customers and shopkeepers. Consumers said that the government writ to control the prices of food items and improve the quality is nowhere to be seen while the prices of what the Prime Minister takes notice of are out of the purchasing power.
