Lahore High Court underground water conservation, environmental pollution and smug hearing on the application for prevention, the court ordered the shops, the penalties for the use of polythene bags.
Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court heard the petition of Haroon Farooq. Director PDM Sohail Babar, District Officer Environment Department Lahore Ali Ijaz appeared in the court, while Syed Kamal Haider Advocate presented the report on behalf of Water and Environment Commission.
The Water Commission informed the court that 2,341 kilns were converted to ZigZag technology, 1,373 smoke-emitting vehicles were shut down and 10,739 smoke-emitting vehicles were challaned.
In the court, the lawyer of the Punjab government also apprised about the steps being taken to eradicate environmental pollution. Justice Shahid Karim appreciated the steps being taken with regard to environmental pollution.
The court issued orders to seal the shops of those who use polythene bags and impose a fine of Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000. The Lahore High Court also issued notices to the New Pakistan Development Authority and Riverview Development Authority seeking a report on water conservation.
It may be recalled that on March 6, the Lahore High Court had banned the use of polythene bags in the city.
