Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting, General (R), Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Saturday that the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved a project worth US$ 7.2 billion for the Main Line Railway (ML-1).
“The CDWP approved and recommended the ML-1 project to the National Economic Council Executive Committee (ECNEC) at a cost of US$ 7.2 billion,” he said.
Asim Bajwa, who is also Chairman of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), said in his tweet the scope of the project included dualization and upgrading of 1872 km of railway track from Peshawar to Karachi. Though Walton Academy would also be upgrading under the project alongside the building of a dry port at Havelian. He has called the approval a significant milestone for CPEC’s second phase.
