The 15-member Pakistani team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean in 2024 was revealed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday. The team, captained by skipper Babar Azam, consists of both seasoned veterans and several fresh recruits.

T20 World Cup Newcomers

The team now includes Imad Wasim and Muhammad Amir, who announced their retirements earlier this year. In the meantime, the T20 World Cup debuts of Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan are scheduled.

Well-Organized Team

Eight players on the team competed in the 2022 T20 World Cup, according to the PCB news release, giving the team a “mixture of youth and experience”. The group that made up the selection committee was described as an “extremely talented and balanced side” by Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Bilal Afzal, Gary Kirsten, Mohammad Yousuf, and Wahab Riaz.

Concerns About Injuries

Concerns over pacer Haris Rauf’s injury were also covered in the press release. Rauf missed the most recent Pakistan Super League because of a dislocated shoulder. The PCB is still optimistic, though, that Rauf will fully recover and, together with other strike bowlers, be an important part of the forthcoming competition.

World Cup Preparations

Pakistan is currently preparing for the T20 World Cup by playing a four-match T20 series in England. The team will benefit much from this series of matches in preparation for the major event.

Timetable of Events

Pakistan’s World Cup seeding for the opening round is A2. In Antigua and Barbados on June 19, 21, and 23, assuming they advance to the second round, their Super Eight matches will pit them against the other groups’ winners.

The following is the complete Pakistani team:

Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim.

In Summary

With a well-rounded team that includes both young and seasoned players, Pakistan is expecting to win their third T20 World Cup. The addition of new players and the reappearance of Amir and Imad give the team a more complete appearance. Haris Rauf’s fitness issues, however, could still be a problem. To have a serious chance of winning the trophy, Pakistan will need to resolve these problems and come together as a team.
