Direct Islamabad–London Flights Restart on 29 March
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the resumption of direct flights between Islamabad and London, reopening one of its most important international routes after a gap of six years. The move marks a significant expansion of the airline’s UK operations and is expected to provide welcome relief to travellers who have long relied on connecting flights through the Middle East or Europe.
According to a statement from the national carrier, the first Islamabad–London flight will take off on 29 March. The service will operate to and from London Heathrow’s Terminal 4, one of the airport’s most modern and passenger-friendly terminals, offering improved facilities and smoother connections for onward travel.
PIA described London as its first international destination and a flagship route in its history, making the restart a symbolic and commercial milestone for the airline’s international comeback.
Four Weekly Flights to Strengthen UK–Pakistan Connectivity
Under the new schedule, PIA will operate four direct flights per week between Islamabad and London. This increased frequency is designed to provide greater flexibility for passengers, including families, students, business travellers and members of the Pakistani diaspora living in the United Kingdom.
The airline says the additional flights will help reduce travel times and remove the need for long layovers at foreign hubs. For passengers travelling with children, elderly family members or large amounts of luggage, direct services can be more convenient and less stressful than multi-stop journeys.
By expanding its own non-stop capacity on this busy corridor, PIA also aims to recapture market share that had shifted towards foreign carriers during the suspension of its London operations.
Why the London Route Matters for PIA and Passengers
London has long been one of PIA’s most attractive and strategic routes, given the large Pakistani community across the UK and strong business, education and family links between the two countries. Direct flights from Islamabad allow passengers from the capital region and northern Pakistan to travel without the extra time and cost of transiting through other cities.
For PIA, the return to London is more than a route expansion. It signals renewed ambition to rebuild its international network and improve its image in key global markets. Stronger connectivity with London can support tourism, student mobility, business travel and official delegations, all of which contribute to wider economic and people-to-people ties.
The airline’s decision is also likely to be welcomed by travel agents and tour operators, who can now offer more direct options to customers planning trips between Pakistan and the UK.
Linked Expansion After Islamabad–Manchester Flights
The new London service builds on PIA’s recent return to Manchester. In October 2025, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif inaugurated direct flights between Islamabad and Manchester, after which PIA began operating three weekly services on that route.
With both London and Manchester now back on the map, PIA is gradually restoring a broader UK footprint that had narrowed in previous years. Together, these routes give passengers more choice on which city to fly into, depending on where their families, universities or workplaces are based.
For the airline, operating multiple UK destinations also allows better use of aircraft, crew and ground resources, while spreading demand across different regions with strong Pakistani communities.
What Travellers Should Expect from the New Service
PIA has said that the resumption of London flights is aimed at strengthening its international network and giving passengers more direct choices. Travellers can expect non-stop journeys between Islamabad and London, with check-in, baggage and immigration handled at a single departure and arrival point instead of multiple transit stops.
While specific schedules and fares will depend on seasonal demand and booking trends, the presence of four weekly flights should create a more predictable timetable for those planning holidays, family visits or study trips. Passengers are advised to book early, especially around peak travel periods such as summer, Eid and year-end holidays.
If the new Islamabad–London route performs well, it could encourage PIA to further upgrade its UK offerings and explore additional international destinations. For now, the airline’s return to London represents a key step towards rebuilding direct air links between Pakistan and one of its most important global partners.
