Recently, Prime Minister Imran Khan said the government would soon announce the construction industry’s Rs100 billion package as the government is trying to hold the country alive in the coronavirus pandemic.

“We must support and incentivize the manufacturing sector. The Ministry of Commerce has also drafted a list of industries that can be reopened in the current situation, “he said.

The Prime Minister added that road and infrastructure will not pose the danger of coronavirus spreading. “We’ll be designing the requisite SOPs to ensure workers’ health,” he assured.

He added that the pandemic posed a greater danger to vulnerable segments of society, which is why the government is trying to reach out to them under the Ehsaas programme.

“The 12 million poor families will be given a cash grant of twelve thousand rupees each to shield them from the negative impacts of the crisis,” he said. He said the government, apart from the business community packages, has earmarked PKR 200bn for wheat procurement to help the farming sector and farmers.
