In Punjab, the year 2024 will bring something good for both traditional and electric two and three wheelers because the caretaker administration made some big pronouncements regarding them.
Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced 2,000 interest-free e-rickshaws, 2,000 electric bikes for women, 2,000 electric bikes for handicapped people, and 10,000 electric bikes for university students via the Bank of Punjab (BOP).
In addition, Sazgar Engineering received the first-ever production license for e-rickshaws from the government. Amidst all of that, the authorities declared a significant advancement for the three-wheeled rickshaws, referred to as Qingqi rickshaws in the local dialect.
Details To Know
These three-wheelers were outlawed by the government in December of 2023. The government’s decision to outlaw Qingqi rickshaws was announced by acting Punjab Minister of Transportation Ibrahim Hassan Murad, who cited the necessity for regulation and unlawful manufacturing. The action is a component of a bigger strategy to outlaw unlicensed rickshaws, of which there was first a 30-day notice.
The minister stressed the need to launch an offensive against individuals who manufacture motorbikes and loading rickshaws without authorization. With a possible prohibition on local production and the regularization of rickshaw manufacturing enterprises, the focus is on unauthorized rickshaws.
So, What’s The New Announcement?
The government has now said that it will begin registering three-wheelers that have been modified. “Under the transport department’s efforts to register Qingqi rickshaws—a task previously deemed impossible—we are going to initiate the Qingqi Rickshaw Body Standard Program,” Naqvi declared.
The fact that thousands of people in the city are associated with these cars, many of which belong to the lower middle class, is therefore good news for the owners and operators of these vehicles. By registering these three-wheelers, we can reduce underage driving, raise manufacturing standards, and regulate the quantity of these vehicles on the road, all of which pose major risks to other commuters.
By providing frequent checks and legal protection, the registration will guarantee these drivers’ employment and address a variety of concerns for them. Moreover, registration will include its manufacturing sector in the tax system, which is an additional benefit for the government.
