Cold Wave Tightens Grip on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has reported that cold conditions have intensified across much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in Peshawar and surrounding districts. Dense cloud cover has continued to blanket the provincial capital, adding to the chill and limiting sunshine during the day. The Met Office expects dry but very cold weather for most districts, with upper and mountainous regions remaining extremely cold under partly cloudy skies. For residents, this means continued use of warm clothing and heating arrangements, particularly during night-time and early morning hours.

Rain and Light Snow Predicted in Upper Districts

According to the forecast, light rain and snowfall are expected in several upper districts of the province. These include Upper Dir, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Upper Swat and Mansehra. Even light snowfall can make roads slippery and reduce visibility on mountain routes, so drivers have been advised to exercise caution. For communities living in higher altitudes, the Met Office warning is a reminder to prepare for possible travel delays and to keep essential supplies at home in case conditions worsen over short periods.

Fog Risk in Plains and Motorway Travel

In the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Karak and Bannu, the Met Office has warned of fog formation during night and early morning hours. Fog can seriously reduce visibility on motorways, national highways and the GT Road, especially in areas such as Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan. Motorists are urged to drive slowly, keep safe distances and use fog lights where available. Travellers are also advised to check latest road and weather updates before starting long journeys.

Mist and Moisture Likely Across the Province

In addition to fog, the weather office has said that mist may develop late at night and in the early morning in both upper and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mist and moisture in the air can make the cold feel sharper than the actual temperature, particularly near rivers and open fields. People who work outdoors, including farmers, labourers and commuters, have been advised to dress in layers and protect themselves from prolonged exposure to the cold to avoid health issues such as flu and respiratory problems.

Cold Conditions Persist in South Punjab

Meanwhile, the cold spell has tightened its grip on South Punjab as well. The Met Office says that several cities in the region continue to experience cold mornings and nights, with limited sunshine during the day. Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rahim Yar Khan have all remained under cold conditions, with residents reporting a persistent chill. For many households, especially those with limited access to heating, the ongoing cold wave is adding to daily discomfort and energy costs.

Fog, Canals and Low-Lying Areas in South Punjab

In South Punjab, fog and moisture near canals and low-lying areas have further intensified the cold, particularly during night-time. These conditions can make travel in rural belts more difficult, especially for people who rely on motorcycles, rickshaws or tractor trolleys for transport. The Met Office has urged drivers and pedestrians to remain careful on foggy roads and to use reflective clothing or lights where possible. Residents are encouraged to follow official advisories and take basic precautions, such as keeping children and the elderly warm and avoiding unnecessary late-night travel.
