Samsung has launched the Galaxy S26 FE — the Fan Edition that brings flagship-adjacent specifications to a more accessible price point. This generation’s headline upgrades are the 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset, Android 17 with One UI 9 (making it the first S26-series device to ship with the new OS), and an expanded Galaxy AI suite. At $699.99, it costs $50 more than its predecessor. The camera hardware is largely unchanged from the S25 FE — Samsung is betting that AI-powered camera features and a meaningful chipset upgrade are enough to justify the step up.

⚠️ Camera Hardware Unchanged — Software AI Is the Difference vs S25 FE  The camera hardware is the most notable non-change. Samsung carried over the same 50MP main, 8MP telephoto, 12MP ultrawide and 12MP front camera from the S25 FE. The $50 price increase is justified by the chipset and OS upgrade — not a camera improvement. Buyers upgrading from a Galaxy S21 FE or older will notice a significant camera improvement due to computational photography advances; buyers coming from the S25 FE will not see meaningful camera hardware gains.

Exynos 2500 — Why the Chipset Upgrade Matters

The Exynos 2500’s 3nm node represents a meaningful step from the 4nm Exynos 2400 in the S25 FE. Smaller nodes deliver better performance-per-watt — the chip does more while consuming less power. For a phone with a 4,900mAh battery, better chip efficiency directly translates to longer battery life under load. The Xclipse 950 GPU, built on AMD’s RDNA architecture, handles both gaming graphics and AI inference tasks more capably than the Xclipse 940 it replaces.

The 10-core CPU configuration — one performance-focused Cortex-X925 prime core at 3.3GHz, followed by two clusters of mid and efficiency cores — follows the same heterogeneous design used in the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Apple A18 families. The prime core at 3.3GHz handles bursts of demanding work; the efficiency cores handle background tasks with minimal power draw. For daily use in Lahore or Karachi — mixed messaging, social media, video streaming, occasional gaming — the Exynos 2500 is thoroughly capable.

⚠️ Exynos Thermal History — Worth Watching in Reviews Before Buying  One question the S26 FE faces is thermal performance. Exynos chips have historically run warmer than equivalent Snapdragon chips under sustained load — a concern for gaming sessions that last longer than 20-30 minutes. Samsung has not published thermal specifications for the S26 FE. Until reviewers publish long-session gaming benchmarks, buyers who prioritise sustained gaming performance should note this uncertainty.

Android 17 and Galaxy AI — What’s New

The S26 FE is the first Galaxy S26-series device to ship with Android 17 and One UI 9 out of the box — a meaningful distinction since most S26 models launched on Android 16. Android 17 brings platform-level improvements to notification management, privacy controls, and app sandboxing that one UI 9 builds on. For users who care about software longevity, seven years of Android OS upgrades means the S26 FE will receive major Android updates through Android 24 — well beyond the typical two-to-three year window most manufacturers commit to.

Galaxy AI additions this generation include upgraded Now Brief with customisable briefing cards, Now Nudge for proactive suggestions, and an improved Circle to Search that can identify multiple objects simultaneously in a single image rather than one at a time. Photo Assist allows natural-language editing instructions — “remove the car in the background”, “change the sky to sunset” — and Gemini Omni can generate video clips from Gallery photos and videos. My FanCam automatically tracks and centres a selected person across existing video footage, a feature aimed squarely at sports and events content.

✅ 7-Year Updates — The S26 FE Is the First FE With True Flagship Software Longevity  Seven years of OS and security updates is Samsung’s strongest software commitment in the Galaxy FE line to date. In practical terms: buying the S26 FE in 2026 means it will receive major Android OS updates until approximately 2033. Security updates continuing for seven years means that even after the last OS upgrade, the phone remains safe for banking, payments and sensitive apps. This is the update commitment that previously required buying a flagship Galaxy S or iPhone — it is now available at Fan Edition pricing.

Camera System — Unchanged Hardware, Better Software

Rear Cameras

The 50MP f/1.8 main with OIS, 8MP telephoto at 3x optical zoom with OIS, and 12MP ultrawide are carried forward unchanged from the S25 FE. This is a capable triple camera system for a phone at this price — OIS on both the main and telephoto is a genuine advantage for travel, events and low-light shooting. The 3x optical zoom covers portrait distances and candid shooting at a useful distance without the subject looking directly at the camera.

What Samsung has added is AI-driven software enhancement. Nightography improvements aim to extract more detail from low-light scenes without the aggressive AI sharpening that makes some night shots look painted rather than photographed. Super Steady’s Horizontal Lock keeps video frames level even during shaky handheld movement — useful for walking video and action recording where maintaining a level horizon matters more than steady framing alone.

Selfie Camera

The 12MP f/2.2 front camera is unchanged from the S25 FE. At 12MP and f/2.2, it is competent rather than exceptional — adequate for video calls, casual selfies and social content in good light. For content creators who prioritise front camera quality, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max’s 32MP 4K front camera at a similar price point (when available in Pakistan) will be a stronger option. Samsung’s advantage is the Galaxy AI editing suite rather than the raw sensor.

ℹ️ On-Device AI Editing — Photo Assist Works Offline, No Server Required  Samsung’s Galaxy AI photo features run on-device using the Xclipse 950’s NPU — they do not require a server connection for basic edits. This matters in Pakistan’s mobile data environment: Photo Assist’s object removal and background changes work even on a slow 4G connection or offline. Gemini Omni features that connect to Google’s cloud require connectivity, but local AI processing covers the most frequently used editing scenarios.

Battery and Charging

The 4,900mAh battery is carried unchanged from the S25 FE — a reasonable capacity for a phone in this weight class at 193g. Samsung claims 45W charging reaches 69% in 30 minutes with a compatible adapter, which is competitive in the $700 bracket. The adapter is not included in the box — a Samsung practice since the S21 series that continues here. Pakistan buyers should factor the cost of a 45W adapter (approximately Rs2,000-4,000) into the total ownership cost.

Wireless charging at 15W is standard for Samsung’s One UI charging interface. Wireless PowerShare allows the S26 FE to reverse charge earbuds and accessories placed on its back — useful for Galaxy Buds users who want to top up without carrying an extra cable. The 15W wireless rate is not fast by current standards — the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max’s 100W wired is six times faster for wired use — but wireless is a convenience feature rather than a primary charging method for most users.

⚠️ 45W vs Competitors — Chinese Brands Offer 80-100W at Similar or Lower Prices  45W charging is notably slower than Chinese competitors at the same or lower price points. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max charges at 100W and Realme and OnePlus offer 80W+ at sub-$500 prices. Samsung’s counter-argument is that battery longevity is better preserved at slower charging rates — high-wattage charging generates more heat, which degrades battery capacity faster over time. Whether the tradeoff is worth it depends on how much faster charging matters in daily routine.

Display and Design

The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with 120Hz refresh and 1,900 nits peak brightness covers all the bases for a phone at this price. FHD+ (1080×2340) rather than QHD means the display is not as sharp as the Galaxy S26 or S26+ flagship panels, but at 6.7 inches, the pixel density remains visually sharp under normal viewing conditions — the pixel density difference becomes visible only when holding the phone very close or viewing ultra-high-resolution content.

Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects the display — a step up from Victus 2 used in the Redmi Note 17 series, and notably stronger than the Gorilla Glass 5 or Victus found on most competing phones at this price. The 7.4mm thickness and 193g weight make the S26 FE noticeably slim and light for a 6.7-inch phone, which will be appreciated during extended use.

Pakistan — Availability and Price Estimate

Storage Global Price Pakistan Estimate
128GB $699.99 Rs195,000–Rs215,000
256GB Varies by market Rs215,000–Rs235,000
512GB Select markets only Rs235,000–Rs255,000

Pakistan availability has not been announced. Samsung Pakistan typically launches Galaxy FE models within one to two months of global launch. Given the global August-September 2026 launch window, a Pakistan release in October-November 2026 is likely. The estimates above are based on current USD-PKR exchange rates with typical Samsung import duties and retailer margins — actual official prices may be higher depending on PTA device approval costs and Samsung Pakistan’s margin structure.

ℹ️ S25 FE Still Available — Consider the S25 FE if the Price Gap Is Too Wide  The $50 price increase from the S25 FE to the S26 FE is manageable in global markets but compounds significantly in Pakistan due to exchange rate and import costs. The S25 FE launched in Pakistan at approximately Rs175,000-185,000 in mid-2025 — the S26 FE at Rs195,000-215,000 represents a 10-15% nominal increase. In a market where Rs200K is a significant threshold, buyers should evaluate whether the Exynos 2500 and Android 17 upgrade justify the step up versus an S25 FE that can be had for less.

Who Should Buy the Galaxy S26 FE

The S26 FE is the right choice for buyers who want the Samsung ecosystem — Galaxy AI, Bixby, Samsung Pay, seamless Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Watch integration — with a seven-year software commitment and premium build quality, at a price below the mainstream Galaxy S26 ($799). The Exynos 2500’s NPU makes on-device AI genuinely useful rather than a marketing claim, and the Galaxy AI camera editing suite provides real-world utility for content on Instagram, WhatsApp and TikTok.

The S26 FE is the wrong choice for buyers who prioritise camera hardware upgrades from their current Samsung phone — the camera sensors are unchanged from the S25 FE. It is also not the best choice for buyers who prioritise fast charging — 45W is adequate but not competitive with Chinese alternatives. And buyers who are comfortable with non-Samsung Android — particularly Xiaomi’s HyperOS ecosystem — will find the Redmi Note 17 Pro series delivers more hardware (especially battery) per dollar at a lower price.

The S26 FE’s strongest argument is its combination of brand trust, seven-year updates, and the Galaxy ecosystem for buyers already invested in Samsung — Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch, Samsung Smart TV, SmartThings home devices. For that buyer, the S26 FE is the most sensible FE Samsung has made.
