Singapore’s New AI Visa Track: ONE Pass Explained

What Singapore is launching from January 1, 2027

Singapore is preparing a new visa pathway for global professionals in artificial intelligence and advanced technology. From January 1, 2027, the government plans to introduce the ONE Pass (AI and Tech), a specialised track for experienced talent in AI, advanced software engineering, quantum computing, and other deep-tech areas.

This pathway is meant to replace the earlier Tech.Pass introduced in 2021 and bring it under the broader Overseas Networks and Expertise (ONE) Pass framework. The goal is to attract senior experts and founders who can contribute to Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and help build high-impact teams and businesses.

For applicants, the key message is that Singapore is making AI and advanced tech a clear policy priority and is offering a dedicated route with longer-term stability.

What the ONE Pass is and why it is different

The Overseas Networks and Expertise Pass (ONE Pass) is a premium work visa designed to attract top global professionals. Unlike many standard work visas, it allows eligible individuals to live and work in Singapore without being tied to a single employer. That flexibility matters in tech, where senior people may advise multiple projects, move between companies, or start new ventures.

The ONE Pass targets candidates with exceptional achievements or high salaries. A commonly stated benchmark is a salary of at least SGD 30,000 per month, or strong evidence of outstanding professional accomplishments. This is not a general migration route; it is designed for high-impact profiles who can add skills, networks, and leadership to the local ecosystem.

Who the AI and Tech track is designed for

The ONE Pass (AI and Tech) track is aimed at senior technology experts and founders working in high-impact sectors such as AI, quantum computing, advanced software development, and deep tech engineering.

Experience expectations are clearly senior-level. Candidates need at least five years of experience within the past 10 years in roles such as founder or co-founder, C-suite leadership (for example CEO or CTO), or senior technical roles like senior software engineer.

This makes the track most relevant for people who can show sustained impact: leading product development, scaling systems, building teams, shipping complex software, or driving R&D and commercial outcomes in advanced technology.

Employer and company criteria applicants must meet

The proposal includes requirements around the type of organisation the applicant is linked to. Applicants must currently work, or have most recently worked, at a technology company, a technology division within a broader company, or a technology-focused venture capital firm.

The employer or firm must meet at least one scale criterion, such as:
• market value or valuation of at least US$500 million,
• annual revenue of at least US$200 million,
• assets under management of at least US$500 million,
• or startup funding raised of at least US$30 million.

These criteria are designed to ensure applicants come from established or high-growth environments. Practically, candidates should be ready to provide proof of these thresholds through official documents, investor information, audited financials, or credible public disclosures, depending on the organisation type.

Salary thresholds, visa length, and what changes versus Tech.Pass

The ONE Pass model uses income as a key filter. The standard salary threshold often cited is SGD 30,000 per month for at least 12 consecutive months before applying. The AI and Tech track adds flexibility that better fits tech compensation: a fixed monthly salary of at least SGD 22,500, plus additional compensation such as stock options or company shares, subject to review.

Visa validity is also longer. The older Tech.Pass offered 2 years with one possible renewal for another 2 years. The planned ONE Pass (AI and Tech) is set at 5 years, renewable for another 5 years. That longer runway can be attractive for founders and senior specialists who want stability to build products, relocate families, and plan long-term work.

For applicants, the takeaway is simple: this is a high-bar route with high flexibility. If you meet the senior experience profile and pay requirements, Singapore is offering a longer, more stable pathway designed specifically for AI and deep-tech leadership.
