In terms of regular new cases, Pakistan saw its deadliest day, as the country reported 2,255 new positive coronavirus cases in just 24 hours to take the tally to 34,336. Of the new cases, only Punjab registered more than half or 1,356 cases, while Sindh reported 593 new cases in the past 24 hours.
The KP, Balochistan and Islamabad respectively added 146, 97 and 43 new cases of coronavirus. Sources said the increase in Punjab cases may be attributed to backlog testing in the province, as the province reported only 800 total cases in the previous two days; suggesting that a lot of tests came back yesterday and were registered accordingly.
Death figures hit 31 in 24 hours, of which 24 patients were on the ventilator; showing a high risk of fatality when patients are on the ventilator. The number of hospitalizations exceeded 7,876, of which 195 are critical, while another 128 are on the ventilator. Yesterday hospitalizations increased rapidly, as 1,215 new hospitalizations were reported in a single day. Fatalities are expected to increase in the coming days, as the number of ICU patients is increasing.
So far a total of 8,812 have been recovered from the hospitals and discharged.
