SUPARCO and e-Agri sign a landmark MoU to use satellite data, AI and digital platforms for climate-smart farming, better crop monitoring and agri finance in Pakistan.

Space Technology Meets Digital Agriculture

Pakistan’s agriculture sector is entering a new phase of digital transformation. Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the National Space Agency, and e-Agri, a leading agri-tech innovator, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combine space-based intelligence with modern digital farming tools.

The partnership aims to make agricultural decision-making smarter and more data-driven. By using satellite images, advanced analytics and digital platforms, the two organizations plan to support farmers, agribusinesses and financial institutions with reliable, up-to-date information on crops, weather and risks.

Details of the SUPARCO–e-Agri MoU

The MoU was signed at SUPARCO Headquarters in Islamabad by Mr. Zafar Iqbal, Member Space Applications & Research, and Mr. Adnan A. Syed, Chief Executive Officer of e-Agri. This agreement marks the beginning of a strategic alliance that connects space science with data-driven agricultural solutions.

Under this collaboration, SUPARCO will provide satellite-based geospatial services and AI-driven analytics to support better agricultural planning. These services will be integrated into e-Agri’s digital ecosystem, which already connects farmers, agribusinesses and lenders. Together, the two partners aim to build a strong foundation for climate-smart agriculture and digital agricultural finance in Pakistan.

How Space-Driven Intelligence Will Help Farmers

By using satellite data and AI models, the new system will produce actionable insights on crop health, soil moisture, weather patterns and climate risks. This information will help farmers decide when to sow, irrigate, fertilize or harvest their crops, based on real field conditions instead of guesswork.

The insights will also support performance assessment and risk-informed planning across agricultural operations. Farmers will be able to spot issues early, reduce crop losses and improve productivity over time. For smallholders, who are most vulnerable to climate and price shocks, better information can mean more stable incomes and reduced financial stress.

Stronger Agri Finance and Risk Management

One of the key goals of the partnership is to expand access to agricultural finance. With better visibility into crop conditions and risks, banks and microfinance institutions can evaluate farm loans more accurately and design suitable credit products.

Satellite-based crop monitoring can support early warning systems and risk mitigation mechanisms for lenders and insurers. This can help reduce default risks, lower the cost of serving rural clients and encourage more formal financial institutions to work with farmers. In turn, farmers can benefit from timely credit, insurance and other financial services linked to real on-ground data.

Voices from SUPARCO and e-Agri

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Zafar Iqbal said that SUPARCO remains committed to using space technology for Pakistan’s socio-economic development. He noted that this partnership is an important milestone in bringing operational space-based agricultural intelligence into a market-oriented digital ecosystem. By combining SUPARCO’s analytical capabilities with e-Agri’s digital reach, the collaboration aims to uplift farming communities and strengthen Pakistan’s position as a competitive agricultural player.

Commenting on the collaboration, Mr. Adnan A. Syed highlighted that the MoU is a major step towards bringing reliable, timely information into everyday agricultural decision-making. By working with SUPARCO, e-Agri aims to support farmers and improve farm credit systems by offering better visibility into crop performance and associated risks.

A Step Toward Climate-Smart, Competitive Agriculture

Both organizations have expressed strong interest in further deepening the partnership over time. They plan to use each other’s technologies, datasets and outreach networks to support national agricultural and economic objectives.

If implemented at scale, this space-driven, digital agriculture model can help Pakistan move toward more climate-resilient, productive and globally competitive farming systems. For farmers, lenders and agribusinesses, it promises a future where decisions are guided by data, risks are better managed and opportunities for growth are easier to access.
