Google Home 3.18, which includes the new Favorites widgets, is now publicly available on the Play Store, as per the announcement made last week. The new widget will be visible to Preview Program participants after updating.
Customization of Widgets
Users are presented with two options when they place the widget on their home screen: “Sync to your favourite from the Home app” or “Choose controls [devices] unique to this widget.” While the latter lets users arrange the tiles in the order they choose the devices, the first choice also corresponds to the grid arrangement of the Favorites tab.
Editing and Configuring Widgets
In addition to switching homes, users can alter the widget by using the pencil symbol in the corner. Currently, Actions (Assistant + Broadcast + Call Home) and Devices are available for selection, with “support for automation coming soon.”
Control of Devices and Interactions
With a tap, users may turn on and off devices like lights, plugs, and blinds while remaining on the home screen. Google states that “devices may take some time to complete the task but the widget will present the progress of completion.” A chevron in the upper-right corner designates other devices, such as “Camera, Wi-Fi, Thermostat, and Command tiles,” and clicking on it will launch the app and take you to the device management page.
Safety Measures
Google highlights that “different levels of user authentication are required for sensitive actions like opening garage doors, smart locks, or viewing cameras.” This is to make sure that you still have control over and safety in your home.”
Refreshing and Sizing Widgets
It states that the Google Home widget “refreshes its status every 30 minutes.” Users have the option to have the widget fill their whole home screen or resize it to a single 2×1 tile. Another good layout is the 5×1.
Multiple Widgets and App Integration
On their home screen, users can arrange several widgets. Tapping on an empty area will launch the program. The Favorites Tile is a new feature of Google Home for Wear OS; however, it hasn’t been released extensively yet.
Conclusion
The release of the Google Home Favorites widget promises a more seamless smart home experience by providing customers with greater personalization, device control, and security capabilities.
