Railway Minister Sheik Rashid Ahmed said on Sunday that Wednesday would announce a final decision on the resumption of train operations in the country.
“If we restart train operations after 15 days, people will climb on [traveling] train roofs and then the public will taunt me that Sheik Rashid is responsible for spreading the virus,” the minister of railways told the media. The minister added that if it did not offer permission to resume operations by Wednesday, he would have to tell the railway authorities within 15 days to refund Rs24 million to the people.
If train operations are not restored in the next two days, the federal minister said, railway authorities will have to apologize to the people. “We need to send people pensions and salaries before Eid. “Thirty trains will become operational from four provinces as soon as we have the go-ahead,” he said.
“No passenger is allowed to enter the station without taking any precautions regarding safety. Passengers were told to ensure they have face masks, gloves and sanitizers.
Referring to precautionary measures against the contagious coronavirus, Rashid said the trains had already been disinfected, and the staff members had also been briefed on the given SOPs.
