Adviser to the Prime Minister for Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood said the Tariff Policy Board (TPB) should give due consideration to budget proposals, forwarded by different stakeholders so that Pakistan ‘s economy can be revitalized at this difficult juncture.

He chaired the TPB ‘s 8th meeting, which was held in the Ministry of Commerce’s Committee Room on 11 May 2020. The Ministry of Commerce Secretary, the Chairperson National Tariff Commission (NTC), Member Customs Federal Revenue Board (FBR), and other senior officials attended the meeting from the ministries concerned.

During the meeting, Mr. Razak Dawood stressed that all kinds of benefits should be given to industry and to the lowest strata of society, as directed by the Prime Minister, so that job opportunities could be created in the shortest possible time.

The tariff-related proposals for different sectors of the economy to boost the competitiveness of Pakistan’s exports and give new impetus to the industrialization process were discussed at length during the meeting. TPB ‘s proposals on the tariff structure are to be incorporated into the 2020-2021 fiscal budget.

The Tariff Policy Board agreed that the TPB Sub-Committee meetings would be held on a regular basis and that the Sub-Committee’s recommendations would be forwarded to the Tariff Policy Board for consultations and informed decisions on them.
