Issue of delay in issuance of registration card, Excise department has started considering termination of contract with private company, DG Excise has sent proposal for agreement with NADRA to Secretary Excise, more than 460,000 registration cards are pending.
Due to shortage of materials last month, the production and delivery of smart cards has become more serious. In view of this, DG Excise Saleha Saeed has terminated the contract with Inbox Company and sent a summary to Secretary Excise to start with NADRA. The company had a five-year contract. According to the summary, more than 460,000 cards are pending across Punjab, including Lahore, while the number of pending cards is increasing by the thousands as more vehicles are registered on a daily basis.
The inbox company had agreed to provide 2 million registration cards annually. The concerned company was able to provide 1.5 million registration cards to the citizens. Since 2018, the production and supply of smartphones has not improved. A meeting has also been held with the Chairman NADRA regarding the preparation of smart cards. Chairman NADRA has assured the supply of cards and the provision of pending cards.
NADRA can provide cards with chip and security features. A 2% penalty connotation has also been sent to the concerned company for not providing the cards on time. The final approval for the agreement with NADRA will be given by the Secretary Excise. The inbox company is providing one card in 530 while the price of the card provided by NADRA is more than one thousand.
