The Punjab Cabinet Approved The Import Of 300,000 Tonnes Of Sugar

The 36th meeting of the provincial cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, in which it was decided to abolish the licensing fees of local governments for professionals.

The Cabinet also approved changes in the licensing regime and necessary amendments in the Punjab Local Government Act 2019 to facilitate business under Ease of Doing Business. The Cabinet also approved to import 300,000 tonnes of sugar through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan. The Food Department has approved to allow the Punjab government to enter into an agreement with TCP to purchase imported sugar.

The meeting decided to amend the Sugar Factories Control Act, 1950 and the Cabinet approved an amendment to the Sugar Factories Control Act, 1950, which would empower the Punjab government to fix a zone-wise date for starting the crushing season.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar while ordering indiscriminate crackdown against hoarders and illicit profiteers said that the Provincial Price Control Committee and the administrative officer should take action against those selling essential commodities above the stipulated rates without any discrimination. Ensure availability of essential commodities to the people of the province at a notified rate.
