UAE Loan Repayment to Pakistan Delayed for One Year

The United Arab Emirates rescheduled Pakistan’s $2 billion debt.

A spokesman for the finance ministry said in a statement that Pakistan had to repay the loan to the UAE in March. According to the finance ministry, the UAE had given a loan to Pakistan three years ago for three years.

The loan was repaid last month after Pakistan applied for a three-year extension. Outgoing Prime Minister Imran Khan applied for a ارب 6 billion loan in November 2018.

However, the UAE approved 2 billion for a three-year period, which Pakistan received in 2019, the second-largest debt rescheduled in the last 10 days, relief from China and the UAE. Despite the receipt, SBP’s foreign exchange reserves could not reach a stable level.
