Vivo G2 vs G2 Ultra Teleconverters: Compatibility and Pricing

What Vivo launched and why these add-on lenses matter

Vivo has confirmed compatibility details for its latest external teleconverter lenses, introduced in China alongside the Vivo X300 Ultra and X300s. The company is positioning these add-ons as a way to push smartphone telephoto photography further without relying only on digital zoom.

The lineup includes two redesigned lenses built with Zeiss:
• Zeiss G2 200mm teleconverter (also called G2 teleconverter)
• Zeiss G2 Ultra 400mm teleconverter (also called G2 Ultra teleconverter)

For mobile photography fans, the big question is not only “how far can it zoom,” but also “which phones can actually use it.” External lens systems typically depend on hardware alignment, software tuning, and camera app support. That is why Vivo’s compatibility list is important: it tells you which devices get full support now, and which ones may need updates or special tuning before the lens works reliably.

Vivo also showcased the G2 and G2 Ultra teleconverters for the X300 Ultra at MWC, which signals the company is treating these accessories as a flagship camera feature, not a niche add-on.

G2 200mm teleconverter: the easier buy because it supports more phones

The Zeiss G2 200mm teleconverter is priced at $145. Vivo says it works not only with the newest models, but also with several earlier flagships.

According to Vivo’s confirmed list, the G2 teleconverter supports:
• Vivo X300 Ultra
• Vivo X300s
• Vivo X300 Pro
• Vivo X300
• Vivo X200 Ultra

This wider support makes the G2 the more practical option for most users. If you already own an X300 Pro or X200 Ultra, the G2 is the safer choice because it is already recognised as compatible, rather than being “in progress.”

From a real-world photography perspective, a 200mm-style setup is typically useful for portraits, stage shots, indoor sports, street details, and travel photos where you want reach without losing too much stability. It is also easier to use handheld than extreme focal lengths because framing is less sensitive to small hand movements.

G2 Ultra 400mm teleconverter: flagship-only today, expansion promised

The Zeiss G2 Ultra 400mm teleconverter is priced at $290. Vivo describes it as its higher-end option, but compatibility is much narrower right now.

At the moment, Vivo says G2 Ultra is only compatible with:
• Vivo X300 Ultra

For other devices, Vivo’s wording matters. The company confirmed it is working to extend support to:
• Vivo X300 Pro (status: adapting)
• Vivo X200 Ultra (status: adapting)

If you do not have an X300 Ultra, the key takeaway is: buying the G2 Ultra today could be a gamble unless Vivo confirms that your phone has moved from “adapting” to full compatibility. In practice, “adapting” usually means the lens may require software updates, calibration tuning, and camera app optimisation to deliver consistent results (focus, stabilisation, exposure behaviour, and image processing).

A 400mm-style setup can be powerful for outdoor sports, wildlife-style framing, distant architecture details, and concert shots from far back. But it also demands more stability and better tuning. That is exactly why support may be limited at first: extreme zoom magnifies small issues like micro-shake, focus hunting, and processing artefacts.

Older 2.35x teleconverter: still supported across newer flagships

Vivo also confirmed that its older 2.35x telephoto teleconverter—originally launched with the X200 Ultra—remains compatible with newer phones. That matters for existing Vivo users who already own the older accessory and want to upgrade their phone without losing the lens investment.

Vivo says the older 2.35x teleconverter supports:
• Vivo X300 Ultra
• Vivo X300s
• Vivo X300 Pro
• Vivo X300

Based on Vivo’s compatibility chart, the older 2.35x lens also supports the X200 Ultra. In simple terms, the older lens has the broadest “safe” compatibility footprint, while the new G2 is the current wide-support option, and the new G2 Ultra is the most restricted (for now).

For buyers, this creates a clean decision path:
• Want maximum certainty across models? The older 2.35x (if you already own it) or the new G2.
• Want the most extreme reach? G2 Ultra, but only if you have X300 Ultra today—or you are willing to wait until “adapting” becomes full support.
